The Old Grounds

Old Grounds is a nostalgic multiplayer RPG built as a tribute to the PC games many of us grew up playing in the late ’90s and early 2000s.

Explore a strange, interconnected world of familiar-looking places, fight increasingly difficult enemies, collect and upgrade equipment, develop your character, discover new areas, and survive alongside—or occasionally because of—other players.

Old Grounds deliberately keeps things simple: old-school visuals, straightforward combat, exploration, progression, loot, and multiplayer chaos. No cinematic universe. No 40-minute tutorial. Just enter the world and figure things out.

The game began as a small experiment between friends and has been designed, coded, illustrated, and developed extensively using generative AI, with human direction, testing, iteration, and a questionable number of increasingly specific prompts.

It is an ongoing experiment in seeing how far you can take an idea for a game without being a traditional game-development studio—or, frankly, knowing how to build a game when you start.
